Community Lifelong Learning is a self-supporting, not-for-credit program, and its classes and programs are described as providing opportunities to learn, grow, and develop for participants and their families. Classes offered through Community Lifelong Learning are not funded with tax dollars, and enrollment fees pay all costs of the program. Community Lifelong Learning course offerings change regularly, and registration is recommended at least one week in advance to ensure courses meet their minimum enrollment. Buses for Educational Travel/Extended Trips normally depart from the MJC West Campus, but Modesto Junior College reserves the right to make changes in departure place and times and to make changes to itineraries of equal or greater value as deemed necessary. All off-campus extracurricular field trips and excursions are voluntary, and a full (100%) refund is given for courses or trips that the college cancels. Courses cannot be canceled online, and to receive a refund participants must call the office. Some courses may require the student to bring supplies, and this information is provided in the course description; if a supply list is mentioned but not specified, students are instructed to call the office a few days before class and not to purchase supplies until checking with the office to make sure the class will not be canceled. Children 14–17 may register for an adult course upon approval from the instructor and the MJC Community Lifelong Learning department, with a required Minor Consent form.

Online Community Lifelong Learning offers a wide range of highly interactive ed2go not-for-credit courses that can be taken entirely over the Internet, and these online courses are described as affordable, fun, fast, convenient, and geared just for the participant. The online courses are taught by expert instructors, many of whom are nationally known authors. Founded in 1921, Modesto Junior College has been serving Modesto and surrounding communities for more than 100 years, and it is accredited. It is the mission of the college to empower students to discover opportunities and reach their goals through access to and inclusion in higher education. As a cornerstone in the community, Modesto Junior College states that it creates and promotes equity in education for every member of its diverse population and identifies itself as the community's college.
