Action Academy describes itself as Ventura County’s Premier STEAM-Based Learning Community with a device-free, multi-discipline approach that combines science, engineering, movement, sports, art, and technology. The program states that it follows an Action Philosophy that promotes a “Can do it” environment where athletes build strength in the body, knowledge in the mind, and courage in the heart, using age-appropriate, state-of-the-art apparatus, ever changing circuits, and challenging obstacle courses. Coaches are described as positive role models who use their experience and expertise to create a high energy, healthy and safe environment, with movement-based classes and camps that include structured team building, high-flying action adventure, goal setting, and “try again” attitudes.
In the after school program, children are grouped with peers of similar age, learning style, and interests. The Think Lab uses round table discussions, hands-on experience, and a creative thinking environment. Action Academy offers home-school K–8th and academic enrichment options and is integrated within the local community through The Movement at schools, community centers, churches, and through Action Mobile programs at preschools, elementary schools, and high schools. Action Academy states that it is a movement for the youth of local communities and that it happily uses Hop Skip Drive for children’s transportation needs.
According to its mission statement, Action Academy focuses on gymnastics, freestyle movement, fitness, and wellness to support goal setting and bold thinking, and it aims to equip students with tools, plans, motivation, and confidence to “make their impossible possible.” The mission also states that every student, family, staff member, and visitor is treated as an equal, with efforts to understand and respect each individual, and that the program strives to provide a healthy environment that supports safety, wellbeing, and growth. The mission further emphasizes equality, integrity, honesty, creativity, innovation, teaching as a tool to inspire and motivate, and accountability as a key factor in growth and goal setting, and it states that gymnastics, tumbling, fitness, and wellness programs should be technically accurate, safe, challenging, empowering, physically and emotionally safe, and enjoyable.
