Since 1953, Family Service Association has grown from its Riverside roots into a multi-service nonprofit serving families and individuals across the Inland Empire. Its mission is to address poverty, hunger, and health, from infancy to older adults, in families and under-served communities. Under former CEO Dom Betro, the organization grew from a $250,000 agency to a $26 million organization, and Cheryl-Marie Hansberger now serves as Chief Executive Officer.

Family Service Association is nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA) and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and its centers achieve NAEYC reaccreditation. The organization has been honored as California Nonprofit of the Year by Senator Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh and chosen as Nonprofit of the Year by the City of Moreno Valley. It supports more than 20,000 people each year with childcare, health services, senior meals, and programs that affect daily life, and it increased services during the COVID-19 pandemic, serving more than 20,000 people with more than a million meals.

Family Service Association operates Community and Senior Centers, Senior Nutrition services in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, and affordable housing including Paul F. Jensen Mission Villas Housing. It partners with organizations such as Kaiser Permanente, Dutch Bros, Sizzler, SoCal Gas, The Molina Charitable Foundation, Bolton Insurance, and HOPE Collaborative, and provides scholarships to foster youth. One parent, Austin C., reports that a child who started as a baby at one center is now in a preschool program at another center and describes the staff as “amazing.” Another parent, Gina, describes experiencing staff dedication and compassion both as a former employee and now as a parent.
