Ballet Academy of Silicon Valley’s stated mission is to ignite the brilliance of every dancer while inspiring the pursuit of excellence. The program has registered teachers with both the Royal Academy of Dance and Cecchetti USA, and the Cecchetti syllabus in the curriculum gives dancers the option to take graded exams to earn internationally recognized certifications of their training. The studio introduced the Cecchetti method of classical ballet training to its curriculum and offers the opportunity for examinations for students interested in the Cecchetti graded system.

Ballet Academy of Silicon Valley was first founded by Paula Valentine, Director Emeritus, in 1977 under the name Morgan Hill Ballet Company. Upon Paula Valentine’s retirement in 2004, the studio was turned over to Juliet Smith and became known as South Valley Dance Arts (SVDA). In 2019, SVDA merged with Ballet Academy of Silicon Valley (BASV), and ownership and directorship were then passed to Marisa Visnaw. The leadership team is listed as Founder Paula Valentine, Director Emeritus; Juliet Smith; and Marisa Visnaw, with ownership and directorship passed to Marisa Visnaw.

The program states that it is dedicated to nurturing, inspiring, and cultivating the artistic potential of the South Valley community by providing educational instruction and training programs by professionals, performances, and collaboration with other arts organizations in the community. As a community-oriented, non-competitive dance studio and company, it continues a tradition of dedication to outreach, scholarship, service, and excellence established by SVDA and Morgan Hill Ballet Company, and it aims to uphold the community-oriented missions of these predecessors.
