• Ages: 3–18 years old
Ballet Academy of Silicon Valley was first founded by Paula Valentine, Director Emeritus, in 1977 under the name of the Morgan Hill Ballet Company. Upon Paula Valentine’s retirement in 2004, the studio was turned over to Juliet Smith and became known as South Valley Dance Arts (SVDA). In 2019, SVDA merged with Ballet Academy of Silicon Valley, and ownership and directorship were passed to Marisa Visnaw. The stated mission is to “Ignite the brilliance of every dancer while inspiring the pursuit of excellence.” The studio has registered teachers with both the Royal Academy of Dance and Cecchetti USA, and the Cecchetti syllabus at the studio gives dancers the option to take graded exams to earn internationally recognized certifications of their training. The program offers a holistic approach to teaching a variety of dance forms, including the Cecchetti Method of ballet, which is described as a progressive system of training dancers from a pre-ballet beginning level to a professional level. Classes are available for men and women, boys and girls in Classical Ballet, Modern, Ukrainian Folk Dance, and PBT for ages three and up. Students have the chance to take part in professional quality performances and to collaborate with other arts organizations within the community. The organization states that it is dedicated to nurturing, inspiring, and cultivating the artistic potential of the South Valley community through educational instruction and training programs by professionals, performances, and collaboration with other arts organizations, and it aims to uphold the community-oriented missions and traditions of Morgan Hill Ballet Company and SVDA, including outreach, scholarship, service, and excellence.
