The program includes a focus on self-rescue swim lessons and layers of protection around the pool. Kourtney’s Kause Swim Lessons is part of Kourtney’s Kause, a nonprofit organization focused on drowning prevention and water safety education in honor of Kourtney Faith Andrews, who passed away from a drowning accident in 2017. Kourtney’s Kause was launched in 2020 and has taught life-saving survival swimming skills to 538 new children since then. The organization’s mission is to prevent drowning through swim lesson accessibility, water safety education, and supporting qualified candidates to become instructors. It provides survival swim lesson scholarships to children, instructor training scholarships, and a scholarship program that can provide an entire session of survival swim lessons free of charge.
The leadership team includes Founder and Certified Instructor Kristina Andrews, RN; Vice President Gaylynne Sword; Treasurer Kelly Langer; Secretary Cindy Wargocki; and Stroke Development Instructor Elizabeth Streb. Staff credentials include Kristina Andrews as a Registered Nurse and Certified Instructor, and Gaylynne Sword as a Certified Master Self-Rescue Swim Instructor and certified CPR instructor through the American Red Cross. Elizabeth Streb is a Registered Dietitian, Kelly Langer is the CFO of a $40M manufacturing company, and Cindy Wargocki is a math educator. Kourtney’s Kause is a registered nonprofit organization.
The program provides water safety education in various ways to the community and at a statewide level in California. One instructor shared that through the Kourtney’s Kause instructor training program, her certification was paid for and she was able to become an instructor, and she stated that she is thankful for the opportunities the organization has provided.
