About
South Valley Civic Theatre Youth Programs are part of South Valley Civic Theatre, which produces both musical and non-musical live theater. The youth programs are included in a season that features a children’s show, a teen show, and at least one other show with multiple roles for young people each year.
South Valley Civic Theatre has been a fixture in the South Valley community for over 50 years. It is a non-profit 501(c)3 community theater organization directed and staffed entirely by volunteers and is the Resident Company of the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse. The organization draws on talented musicians and non-professional actors from as far away as the North Bay and Hollister. It offers one of the few participation fee free children’s programs in the Bay Area and provides free and equal access theater opportunities to South Bay youth, supported by audience members, volunteers, sponsors, advertisers, donors, and members. Its mission is to entertain, enlighten, engage, and inspire through the magic of live theater. The organization states a belief that involvement in community theater is an important means for youth to develop confidence and skills and for adults to support the youth of the community, and it has an inclusion statement emphasizing equity, diversity, and inclusion so that people of all races, ethnicities, sexual identities, cultures, ages, gender expressions, backgrounds, abilities, economic statuses, education levels, credentials, and experience have the opportunity to be engaged in programming. The 2025–2026 Board includes Executive Board members President Peter Mandel, Secretary Katherine Ares, Treasurer Jennifer Eichholtz, Senior VP Tressa Bender, VP Box Office Marilyn Pifer, VP Publicity Elizabeth Mandel, and VP Membership Billy Tindall, with General Board members Ashley Bortolussi, Lori Foster, Reggie Reynolds, and Emily Shem-Tov. Limelight Theater’s Managing Director is Emily Shem-Tov, and its Executive Director is Peter Mandel.
