Slide Ranch is a nonprofit organization that was established in 1970. The organization’s mission is to connect children and people of all ages to the outdoors and to partner with community groups, families and educators to provide transformative learning experiences on its organic farm and national park land along the California coast. Slide Ranch is a partner of the Golden Gate National Parks and is located within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, a unit of the National Park Service. Each year, hundreds of children experience Slide Ranch on scholarship, and Slide Ranch partners with community groups, families and educators.

The site has a history of Coast Miwok fishing and foraging. In the late 19th century, the property operated as a dairy that produced milk and butter for San Francisco residents. The property was rescued from commercial development in 1969 when founder Doug Ferguson purchased it and transferred it to The Nature Conservancy, ensuring its permanent protection. Slide Ranch became one of the first Park Partners in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead was one of the first donors, giving $500.
