Genesis Hoops offers basketball skills training that includes shooting, ball handling, IQ development, athletic performance, and strength and agility training. The program also includes Local and National travel teams and emphasizes competitive greatness through its training approach.
• Ages: 8–18 years old
Genesis Hoops states that its mission is “To use sports to unlock greatness in players, coaches, and enthusiasts in critical areas of life – discipline, relationships, communication, passion, health, and faith – while providing the best instruction, competition, and exposure available.” The program highlights a core Genesis philosophy and life principle: “Good Isn’t Enough... BE GREAT!” It also notes an emphasis on leadership development and on being great not just on the court but in life and scholastic achievements.
The leadership team includes Rudy Brown as Founder, President & Pro Skills Trainer; Tremayne Gipson as Pro Skills Trainer and Strength and Agility Specialist; and Derrick O’Neil as Pro Skills Trainer. Coach Rudy Brown graduated from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League university, where he was a Division 1 student-athlete. Tremayne Gipson graduated from California Baptist University in an Advanced Program, majoring in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Sports Medicine, and previously played collegiate basketball at Vanguard University on a full scholarship. Derrick O’Neil attended Valley View High School and Laurinburg Institute, earned a scholarship to Florida State College at Jacksonville, was Florida Junior College Player of the Week, and made the All Florida Junior College first team at the end of his sophomore season; he then received a full scholarship to Florida Gulf Coast University, where he was a two-year captain, and later played in China, Japan, Taiwan, and in the NBA Development League with the Bakersfield Jam.
Parent testimonials describe discipline, care, tenacity, and passion in the program and note visible results in a daughter’s skill sets. Another parent reports that her son has built his speed, agility, and shooting and that he “now dominates” during his seasons. A third parent states that Genesis Hoops teaches kids to learn the game the right way, develop in their skill level, be motivated, and focus on being great in life and scholastic achievements.
