About
Camp Makai Summer Swim Camp offers weekly themed summer camps that include crafts, games, outdoor activities, and swimming. Campers take part in activities such as being a scientist or mermaid, practicing surfing, or having fun in the sun. Non-swimmers are welcome, and all swimmers are tested on their swimming ability before they are allowed to swim, with non-swimmers required to stay in a roped off shallow area of the pool while a lifeguard is on duty during Summer Camp swim hours.
• Ages: 4–8 years old

The camp is part of Makai Swim School, which opened in 1989 as the first private swim school in Napa and has been teaching swimming in the Napa Valley for over 30 years. Makai Swim School employs more than 20 employees and serves over 2000 families a year.
The leadership team includes owner and operator Tami Nixon, Operations Manager Ashley, Summer Camp Manager & Deck Supervisor Kaya, and Lead Instructor & Manager Lindsey. The team includes Adaptive Swim Whisperers® Level 1 certified instructors who are trained in specialized techniques to help swimmers of all abilities build confidence, comfort, and safety in the water. Makai Swim School is founded on the premise that each student’s individual needs be met and challenged, with an approach that aims to uncover and meet each student where they are in their particular phase and to honor and encourage their development along the way.
Parent feedback about Makai Swim School and its programs includes comments that instructors “teach the whole kid and move at their pace” and that the summer camp is “a great addition.” Other parents and grandparents describe instructors as professional and friendly, note positive experiences with owner Tami and instructor Lindsey, and highlight one-on-one attention and focus on making children safer around water.
