The Art Nest is led by founder and teacher Cordelia (Cordie) Brown, an early childhood educator who spent five years teaching at Connolly Ranch, a farm-based education center for children in Napa, CA. Her work at a Reggio-Emilia inspired preschool in San Francisco strongly shaped her approach to education and art, including the idea that the environment is the third teacher after the parent and the teacher. The Art Nest is described as a haven for children to explore their artistic potential, with different stations set up so children can engage at their own pace, and much of the class time is held outside with space to run, play, and explore. The program also offers pop-up events for all ages, and drop-ins are welcome for weekly toddler classes when space is available.

The mission of The Art Nest is to be more than just art classes by using a preschool background to include play, sensory exploration, connecting to nature, circle time, and art. The stated goal is to build community and support caregivers during a time that can feel isolating and lonely, and to support caregivers as they navigate caring for their little ones. The Art Nest describes itself as a safe and magical space where children and families can explore and grow together.

The property used for classes is offered by a couple who describe this use as their gift to the children of Napa, and the founder first taught their grandchildren at Connolly Ranch. The program partners with local businesses to offer classes in downtown Napa and elsewhere. The founder also sells farm animal greeting cards locally at Juniper Station, Napa Bookmine, and Jeffries General.
