Napa Regional Dance Company

Napa Regional Dance Company offers classical ballet and contemporary dance. Classical ballet is the foundation of the curriculum, with classes from pre-ballet through level 8. Contemporary dance includes modern ballet and lyrical style, and the program also offers open contemporary, advanced contemporary, master classes, an apprentice program, a 6 week summer intensive program, and educational outreach programs.

Programs

• Classical ballet — boys and girls ages 5 through adult · year round; six days a week · Foundation of the curriculum; classes in pre-ballet through level 8.
• Contemporary dance — boys and girls ages 5 through adult · year round; six days a week · Students have the option to participate in contemporary style classes. Contemporary Dance at NRDC refers to both modern ballet and lyrical style.
• Open contemporary — For any student who has completed level 3 of the ballet curriculum and is also enrolled in a ballet class.
• Advanced Contemporary — Recommended only for students who are at the intermediate level of ballet or higher and requires concurrent study of classical ballet.
• Master Classes — offered on a periodic basis · Professional dancers are brought in on a periodic basis to work with advanced ballet students.
• Apprentice Program — Held on Saturdays · For exceptionally skilled dancers who are willing to commit time for additional dance choreography opportunities. Participants are selected via audition or approval by the studio director.
• Summer intensive program — 6 week summer intensive program · Open to the community and students across the country.
• Educational outreach programs — Offered to schools in the area through lecture demonstration.

About the provider

Napa Regional Dance Company was founded in 1988 by Janet Mangiaracina and Wanda Martin McGill. The mission is to provide excellent dance training and education while promoting dance as an art form. Instructors have professional backgrounds and have performed with groups such as American Ballet Theater, Dance Theater of Harlem, Oakland Ballet, Ballet West, the Joffrey Ballet, and the Boston Conservatory.

Focus is on the Vagonova style of training. No jewelry or cover ups may be worn during class except a wrap dance sweater on cold days and black spandex shorts that do not fall below the very top of the thigh. Long hair must be securely pinned in a classical ballet bun or 2 braids across the head. Short hair must be held off the face with barrettes or a headband.
