Academy Swim Club serves the Santa Clarita Valley community and has started Torpedo Swim Launch, an accelerated summer swim program, and Summer Camp, which includes swim lessons, to serve community needs. Santa Clarita Swim Club opened as a year-round aquatic facility in September 1998 after thirteen years of operation in the SCV as the seasonal Tadpool Swimschool, and Academy Swim Club opened in 2004 as a more centrally located, private facility.
The leadership team includes founder Nikki Miller, CEO and co-owner Dakota, and Jim. Nikki has a Master’s Degree in Psychology, is a licensed psychotherapist, a past Registered International Supervisor of Child Play Therapists, a past Board Member of the United States Swim School Association (USSSA), a certified Master Instructor of Infant Aquatics, and is currently the Chairperson of the USSSA Learn-to-Swim Course Committee, as well as an annual guest speaker at the USSSA and other professional venues. Nikki was a collegiate diver, a high school swim and diving coach, and has taught young children to swim since 1976. Dakota has a Business Management Degree from a respected out-of-state college, swam on the Valencia High School Swim Team breaking multiple league records and is said to still hold records at VHS over a decade later, has been lifeguard certified most of his life, and is a Red Cross Lifeguard & First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor who certifies all of the staff members. Jim graduated from college, served in the military, then worked in law enforcement for 25 years before retiring, and has been certified as a Pool Operator and Technician for many years.
Camps are monitored by professionals that are highly vetted and trained, including lifeguards for swim, with safety stated as their number one priority. Academy Swim Club offers the only year-round, child-friendly aquatic safety program in the Santa Clarita Valley, with a shiver-free 92-degree pool and a climate-controlled viewing room. Academy Swim Club has been voted Best Swim School by the community year after year, provides a top quality, internationally recognized learn-to-swim program, and has been referred to by patrons as the “Nordstrom’s of Swim Schools.”
Parent and caregiver testimonials describe children looking forward to attending camp and swim lessons, enjoying arts and crafts such as a “shark in the bottle” activity, and experiencing seamless drop-off and pick-up with easy sign-in and sign-out. Multiple testimonials mention friendly and professional staff, clean and heated indoor water, patient instructors, and children gaining new swimming skills and progressing through a level system. One caregiver reports bringing children to Academy Swim Club 20+ years ago and returning with a grandchild, noting a smooth enrollment process and a patient instructor, and another describes a 3-year-old using skills from two years of lessons to right himself, keep his head above water, and return to the wall after accidentally falling fully clothed into a man-made lake.
