The camp schedule includes a pizza party lunch on Friday, and campers bring snacks and lunch Monday through Thursday. Floatation devices are provided for swimmers in need, except during swim lessons, and families may also bring their own. Camps are monitored by professionals who are highly vetted and trained, including lifeguards for swim, with safety stated as their number one priority, and two lifeguard-certified adults supervise swimming at all times.
Summer Swim Camp is part of Academy Swim Club, which operates a year-round, child friendly aquatic safety program that includes a complete water safety program, open swim to practice and play, a climate controlled viewing room, a deck supervisor to assist and oversee pool operations, and free makeup lessons. The pool is described as a shiver-free 92-degree pool, and the Academy Swim Club has been referred to by patrons as the “Nordstrom’s of Swim Schools.” The organization reports being voted Best Swim School by its community year after year and describes itself as the only year-round, child friendly aquatic safety program in the Santa Clarita Valley.
The mission of Academy Swim Club is “To inspire individuals, families and youth to Learn to Swim… for LIFE!” and it states that it does this by creating a safe, fun and friendly atmosphere and teaching developmentally appropriate swimming skills that build self-esteem, confidence and character. Santa Clarita Swim Club opened as a year-round aquatic facility in September 1998 after thirteen years of operation in the SCV as the seasonal Tadpool Swimschool, and Academy Swim Club opened in 2004 as a more centrally located, private facility. Nikki Miller is the founder of Academy Swim Club, and Dakota is the CEO and owner with his wife Tayler.
Academy Swim Club notes that it started Torpedo Swim Launch, an accelerated summer swim program, and Summer Camp, which includes swim lessons, to serve community needs. Families have shared testimonials describing positive experiences with Summer Camp and swim lessons, including comments about children looking forward to attending, enjoying arts and crafts projects such as a “shark in the bottle” activity, and describing drop-off and pick-up as seamless with easy sign-in and sign-out. Other testimonials mention friendly staff, professional instructors, a heated indoor pool, and children gaining swimming skills and confidence over time.
