About

Sandcastle Theater Company Drama Programs focus on new play development and arts education for youth. Participants write and put on a completely original play, take part in games and activities, and learn about story creation, character-development, acting, and production design. Students workshop their plays through play development and developmental readings and participate in a final performance.

• Schedule: Over the course of 6 months, students receive coaching, feedback, and support to develop their new plays, collaborate with professional theatre artists, and bring their plays to life in a one-night only performance.
• Price: 20% of our drama families opt in to our sliding scale option that allows all families to participate, no questions asked. Fall Drama Programs in 2025 are providing over $6,000 in fee waivers.

Sandcastle Theater Company Drama Programs describe themselves as “not your typical drama program,” with no auditions and no pressure. The program offers after school options in Davis, Piedmont, and Petaluma and includes New Play Development & Education Programs and Emerging Voices productions of new short plays by Marin School of the Arts writers performed by an ensemble of professional actors. The mission states that the program is committed to nurturing new plays, growing a broader theater community, and creating accessible opportunities for people to gather and experience original stories. Sandcastle uses theater to empower students to find their voice, build creativity, collaboration, and confidence, and tell their own stories, and the community helps grow and sustain the Flexible Pricing Program through tax-deductible donations. All donations are tax-deductible via Fractured Atlas.

One parent from a Flexible Pricing family shared that Sandcastle Theater Company has made a huge impact on their sons, tapping into their older son's creativity and problem solving skills, instilling higher self confidence, serving as an outlet for his anxiety, and providing what they describe as a safe haven of safety and inclusion during chaotic and unsettling times.
