About
Surf Ride Surf Camp gives kids the chance to learn how to surf. The program uses a fleet of rental boards that includes both foam boards and custom hand-shaped epoxy boards.
• Ages: 6–17 years old
• Schedule: Daily options, with hours from 9am–7pm Monday through Saturday and 10am–6pm on Sunday
Surf Ride Surf Camp is connected with Surf Ride Boardshops, which are described as California’s premier surf retail stores and as one of the last surviving core family-owned surf shops in America. Surf Ride was founded in 1974 by twin brothers Bill and Richard Bernard, and by 2005 Dustin and Josh Bernard took over the business. Josh Bernard is the active CEO of Surf Ride, and Dustin Bernard shapes surfboards for Surf Ride under the SR/MFG label. The 7,500-square-foot Surf Ride store was custom built to house what is described as the largest surfboard selection in California, and the program notes that they have an extensive selection of rental boards. The organization also invites visitors to stop by, say hello, and give them a high five, and suggests SolanaBeach.com as a resource for things to do in Solana Beach after visiting the shop.
