About

Alto Swim School offers small group swim lessons, private learn-to-swim lessons, private technique swim lessons, a Peak Performance swim clinic, one-time swim clinics, a competitive swim team, a fitness and recreation swim team, swimming lessons, and adaptive swim lessons. Small group lessons provide semi-private instruction with a maximum of 3–5 swimmers per coach and focus on technique and skill development, and they are intended for beginning and intermediate swimmers who are not yet ready for the competitive or fitness team. Private learn-to-swim sessions focus on water safety and basic swimming skills for young children or non-swimmers, and are also offered for children or adults new to swimming who need basic instruction and water safety.

• Ages: 0–18 years old
• Schedule: Small group lessons meet in 25-minute classes scheduled in 4-lesson series, private learn-to-swim lessons are 25-minute classes in 4- or 5-lesson series or single 25- or 55-minute classes, private technique lessons are 25-, 40-, or 55-minute sessions, and Peak Performance Clinics run as 4-day sessions from 10:00 AM–1:30 PM.
• Price: Alto Small Group registration is $240 per session for 8 lessons; private learn-to-swim options are $240 per session for 4 lessons, $300 per session for 5 lessons, $65 for a single 25-minute class, and $125 for a single 55-minute class; private technique lessons range from $130–$200 for a 55-minute session depending on coach role; the Alto Peak Performance Clinic is $450 per 4-day session.

Private technique lessons are one-on-one sessions focused on specific aspects of stroke technique, starts, turns, or overall race strategy for competitive swimmers looking to refine their skills. The Peak Performance Clinic is a summer clinic for competitive swimmers ages 9–13, and each session includes focused skill progressions, guided video learning from some of the best swimmers in the world, in-water demonstrations, and individual video stroke review for each attendee, with a primary focus on sharpening technical skills for performance in training and racing. One-time clinics are focused events that target specific skills such as starts, turns, underwaters, or race strategies, and include demonstrations, practice, video review, and coaching feedback.

The fitness and recreation swim team is technique-focused plus fitness conditioning for all ages, with elementary, middle, and high school groups. Swimming lessons are offered for toddlers, kids, teens, adults, and adaptive lessons, with both private and group lesson options. The Swim School staff are trained to work with beginners and offer personalized instruction tailored to each child’s comfort and progress in the water, and Alto Swim School lesson instructors complete the Alto Swimming Instructor Certification as well as safety and first aid training.

Alto Swim Club coaches are USA Swimming registered and certified, including background checks, Athlete Protection Training, USA Swimming SafeSport and Coaches Safety Training, and CPR and First Aid certifications. Alto Swim Club is a USA Swimming Club Excellence Silver Medal Team for 2021 and 2022, earned Bronze Medal recognition in 2020, and was the 2019 USA Swimming National Champion. The program states, “We teach life through swimming,” and its mission is to provide a positive, challenging, and inclusive environment where athletes of all levels can grow, with a vision to be the gold standard for developmental and high-performance swimming in the United States and a team structure designed to support meaningful progress across all stages of athlete development. The program emphasizes technical mastery at every level, pairs that with clear expectations, goal-setting, and athlete accountability, and describes a culture that celebrates hard work, commitment, and a passion for the sport.

The name Alto comes from Palo Alto and reflects a stated strong connection to the community it represents, and it also has a stated deeper meaning from the Latin word “altus,” which translates to high, profound, and lofty. Alto Swim Club describes itself as the premier United States Swimming team in its area and offers top tier competitive groups for all ages, from the beginner swimmer to the Olympian. One parent review notes that the coaches are knowledgeable, that their child made a lot of progress in two weeks of private lessons, and that they liked having the same coach for four days in a row and plan to return for more lessons in the summer.
