About

FIRST LEGO League is a hands-on STEM program where students build and code LEGO Education SPIKE robots or LEGO Education Computer Science & AI Kits to complete themed game missions. In the 2026–2027 BIOGLOW season, teams take on challenges centered around biodiversity, including an Innovation Project that focuses on how the balance between nature and humans keeps the world healthy. Students participate in two-and-a-half minute matches where robots or wireless hardware complete missions on a playing field or mat, including alliance-based games in the Future Edition.

• Ages: 5–16 years old

For nearly three decades, FIRST and LEGO Education have partnered to deliver FIRST LEGO League. The program is designed for ages 5 to 16, with age-appropriate divisions that build upon each other from playful discovery to real-world problem-solving through coding, engineering, and research. Students around the world come together to take on themed challenges and connect at local and global events.

The 2026–2027 FIRST LEGO League season is titled BIOGLOW and will be the final season of the program. This season includes two editions: Founders Edition and Future Edition. Founders Edition (Grades 2–8 | Ages 6–16) is based on LEGO Education SPIKE technology, and Future Edition (Grades K–8 | Ages 5–16) is based on LEGO Education Computer Science & AI Kits.

In BIOGLOW Founders Edition, FIRST LEGO League Explore (ages 6–10) and Challenge (ages 9–16, varies by country) teams participate in a game experience using LEGO Education SPIKE technology. Students in Explore focus on the fundamentals of engineering, learn to design and code, and discover real-world solutions using LEGO Education SPIKE Essential. Students in Challenge apply STEM skills to friendly competition and program a LEGO Education SPIKE Prime robot to autonomously complete missions against a playing field during two-and-a-half minute matches, while exploring the biodiversity theme in the game and Innovation Project. Details for BIOGLOW Founders Edition will be released at season kickoff on August 4, 2026.

In BIOGLOW Future Edition, FIRST LEGO League teams (options for Grades K–2/Ages 5–7 and Grades 3–8/Ages 8–16, ages vary by country) participate in a game experience centered around biodiversity using LEGO Education Computer Science & AI Kits. Teams in Future Edition collaborate to build and code wireless hardware to advance their skills and solve missions in an interactive alliance-based game across the mat during two-and-a-half minute matches. Through their Innovation Project in Future Edition, teams learn more about biodiversity and how the balance between nature and humans keeps the world healthy. Challenge details for BIOGLOW Future Edition will be released at season kickoff on August 4, 2026.
