About
Palo Alto Academy Bilingual Montessori offers daily activities that include yoga, dance, active play, outdoor play, public speaking, water play days, and bubble shows. Children take part in music, art with varied materials, science through observation and experimentation, and cultural studies about geography, history, and the global community. Class instruction is offered in both English and Chinese (Mandarin), with extra language exposure to Spanish for beginners.
• Ages: 2–6 years old
• Schedule: Extended days 8am to 6:30pm, full days 9am to 4pm
The program accepts children ages 2 to 6 years old and offers an advanced curriculum that covers a wide range of subjects including English and Chinese, along with monthly topics such as seasons and cultures. Activities include early literacy with tactile reading, writing, and spelling materials, math materials that children can handle directly, and sensorial materials that focus on perception, pattern recognition, and order. Children also engage in practical life activities, grace and courtesy lessons, rotating themes, movement through yoga, dance, and active play, and daily outdoor play. The program includes hot lunch and emphasizes multiple languages learned early, emotional skills to label and express feelings, and art expression and creativity.
The school’s mission statement explains that a Montessori education values children’s intrinsic instinct to learn and prepares a learning environment to develop the whole child physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively. The leadership team includes Ms Virginia, and the school notes that Palo Alto Academy Bilingual Montessori is not affiliated with or endorsed by Palo Alto Montessori School, Inc.
One parent, Mark M., describes teachers as very caring with a strong student-to-teacher ratio and notes that his daughter has become increasingly able to speak Mandarin with confidence, with activities that include animals visiting, water play days, and bubble shows. Another parent, Lisa C., reports that her daughter became very bilingual in English and Mandarin, highlights clean facilities, warm meals, and events for parents, and describes the environment as nurturing and enriching. A third parent, Alex G., states that both of their children attended, mentions Ms Virginia and the staff’s attention to each child’s development and communication with parents, and notes that their children came home with stories about friends and songs about planets.
