PandaTree offers online foreign language tutoring for children that includes one-on-one sessions with a tutor. During sessions, tutors may share PandaTree proprietary content such as photos, text, and games to encourage language conversation practice. Children can also use PandaTree games and Story Time with PandaTree, and may return after their sessions to review what they learned and interact with PandaTree games and other materials.

PandaTree’s mission grew out of the founder’s experience finding a Mandarin tutor via Skype for her own children, who were Mandarin Immersion students and needed to practice at home. The program includes parent-focused features such as easy scheduling, progress updates, and a PandaTree money back guarantee. PandaTree uses a selective screening process for tutors, with each tutor participating in three to five interview rounds, including online working interviews in the form of practice tutoring sessions with real children, and tutors are evaluated by managers with expertise in the tutor’s language and in children’s education. The leadership team includes Founder/CEO Kristina Klausen, Cofounder/Head of Product Rich Matsuura, Senior Manager Tutor & Content Development Mingyu Sun, and Tutor Manager & Content Developer Chien-Yu Lin. Senior Manager Mingyu Sun is the recipient of a dozen grants and awards for her academic work, including a grant to research a Student-Centered Smart Classroom for Languages.
