El Proyecto Child Development Centers Preschool Program offers full-day and part-day preschool options supported by funding from the California Department of Education and the California Department of Social Services. El Proyecto Child Development Centers Preschool Program has helped underserved populations since 1971. Staff are credentialed by the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, and the teaching staff includes bilingual English/Spanish educators. The Child Development Centers Director is Edna Barrera, MS. El Proyecto del Barrio provides health and human services in communities with underserved populations, and El Proyecto Child Development’s philosophy is to consider each child’s level of development, age, uniqueness, culture, and language in everyday planning and interactions. El Proyecto del Barrio is a Health Center Program grantee under 42 U.S.C. 254b and a deemed Public Health Service employee under 42 U.S.C. 233(g)-(n), and is a qualified FQHC and PCMH certified organization. The program serves the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys, provides employment services to adults and youth, and works with hundreds of preschoolers annually. Office hours for enrollment are Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, classroom preschool hours for the full-day program are 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, and classroom preschool hours for the part-day program are 8:00 am to 11:30 am. The program states that its quality of care is well above the state average.
