Heartwood Charter School Homeschool Program serves K-12th grade students. The program uses classes with vendors in the community, project-based learning, parent-designed units, online classes or curricula, and other specialized education opportunities.

About the provider

Heartwood Charter School is a local, teacher led, community created independent study public school. The school supports family choice in education and aims to provide a local alternative that supports homeschool families with credentialed teachers, vendors, administrators, and financial support. The community has existed in one form or another for the past 15 years. Leadership includes Stephanie Felton-Priestner, MSE, M. Ed., Executive Director; Heather Deyden-Littrell, Asst Director of Operations; and Tamara Lemesh, Bothin Vice Principal. The school lists Local CA Credentialed Support Teachers (CSTs) and community building opportunities through special events, resource center activities, field trips, festivals, class plays, community events, and parent education evenings.

Tuition-free homeschool; free California public school; parents/guardians are the primary teacher; families meet with their CST once every 20 instructional days; families provide a signed attendance log, work samples, and periodic PE logs as designated by the CST; students take state standardized tests at the end of the school year; the school now serves Sonoma, Marin, Solano, Contra Costa, Lake, Mendocino, and Napa counties.
