Martial Arts USA was established in 1993 and was one of three schools in the Bay Area owned by Grandmaster Soo Woong Lee. Grandmaster Soo Woong Lee is a 9th Degree Grandmaster, was one of the first Taekwondo Masters to come to the United States in the late sixties, and his leadership helped spark the popularity of the art in America. The kids karate success program at Martial Arts USA was developed by Grandmaster Lee and his son Will Yun Lee and is described as helping tens of thousands of kids do better at school, home, and in social settings. Rock Steady Boxing Petaluma is offered at Martial Arts USA to give people with Parkinson’s disease hope by improving their quality of life, and Personal Defense ReadinessTM is described as a state of the art personal protection and life enhancing system offered exclusively in this area at Martial Arts USA.

Owner Scott Sinan is a Tae Kwon Do instructor, Studio Fit instructor, and Rock Steady coach with over 30 years of experience teaching and training in Tae Kwon Do, is a 5th degree black belt, and is a Fundamentals Coach for P.D.R. Personal Defense Readiness, a division of Blauer Tactical Systems. Tae Kwon Do Director Yulianna Schmidt is a 4th degree black belt, has placed in the top three of her division several times at both the Junior Olympics and Nationals, made the 2013 AAU National Team, and traveled to the German Open to represent the US. Alex Campbell serves as Tae Kwon Do Assistant Manager and Instructor, Competition Coach, Studio Fit Instructor, and Rock Steady Coach, and was the youngest instructor to regularly lead a class on his own at the age of 13 years old. The leadership team also includes Ryan Duffy (Tae Kwon Do Instructor and Competition Coach), Ella Smith (Tae Kwon Do Instructor and Rock Steady Coach), Jace Merrill (Tae Kwon Do Instructor), Patia Curtis (Tae Kwon Do Instructor), Amina Callahan (Tae Kwon Do Assistant, Instructor, and Competition Assistant Coach), Andrew Yang (Tae Kwon Do Assistant and Instructor in Training), Griffin McArdle (Tae Kwon Do Assistant and Instructor in Training), and Ryan Sullivan (Tae Kwon Do Instructor). Patia Curtis earned her first degree black belt in 2019 at age 12 and her second degree in 2021, and Amina Callahan earned her black belt at age 14.

Mr. Sinan states that his goal is to continue to provide a place for students regardless of age or ability to grow mentally, physically, and spiritually, and that he believes in the benefits of training in the martial arts and fitness industry. Martial Arts USA is described by families as a place for the whole family and a community that families feel lucky to have found. One family reports being with the studio for four years and mentions community, flexibility, morals, lessons, variety of classes, and fun events and camps as features they value. Another family notes that class sizes are generally small enough to provide individual feedback and mentions that a birthday party held there was the best birthday party their child had ever had. Multiple families describe the instructors as knowledgeable, patient, kind, and dedicated, and several refer to the studio as a second home or second family. Martial Arts USA has been hosting birthday parties for over 15 years, and these birthdays are described as fun, educational, and keeping kids active for hours.
