Petaluma Wrestling Club (PWC) is a volunteer run 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to fostering the growth and development of young athletes in grades K–12 through the sport of wrestling. PWC was founded in 2019 by Mike Gardner and Isaac Raya, two former wrestlers who are also long-time coaches and public school educators. PWC is run by dedicated volunteers who share a passion for the sport and a commitment to developing well-rounded young people.
The coaches have decades of combined youth wrestling coaching experience and hold Wrestling Leader memberships through USA Wrestling, which require background checks and SafeSport training. The coaching philosophy includes an emphasis on skills development and improvement, sportsmanship, and having fun. Programs are tailored to different skill levels, and programs for beginners and newer wrestlers are focused on wrestling fundamentals and fun. Wrestlers have access to high-level coaching, renown clinicians, and a challenging tournament schedule with coaching support that includes local, state, regional, and national/international competitions.
Petaluma Wrestling Club is a USA Wrestling Chartered Club and a member of the Coastal Mountain Wrestling Association. The team was crowned the Coastal Mountain Wrestling Association Champions in 2024. Wrestlers in elementary through high school have placed at regional, state, and national/international tournaments such as the NorCal Tournament of Champions, CAUSA Wrestling Folkstyle, Freestyle and Greco-Roman state tournaments, and Reno Worlds. PWC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
With support from the community and an engaged Board of Directors, PWC is a thriving organization that aims to continually improve and expand opportunities for athletes in wrestling. The program provides a supportive, safe and inclusive environment, and leadership serves as positive role models, demonstrating professionalism and integrity on and off the wrestling mat. Wrestling at PWC teaches life lessons such as discipline, perseverance, and respect.
Parent and participant feedback includes comments such as “Great coaches and a lot of fun. I highly recommend!”, “This has been a great experience!!
