About
Kids & Youth Islamic Summer Camp offers engaging play, educational activities, arts, sports, outdoor games, nature activities, arts and crafts, snacks, and water balloon fun. The camp also includes daily Islamic knowledge classes as part of the regular schedule.
• Ages: 4–11 years old
• Schedule: Monday through Friday, June 2, 2025 – August 1, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Price: $360/week; you can reserve for 1 week at a time or 4–9 weeks at a $50 per week discount; for this camp, a 10% discount for siblings is offered
For boys and girls ages 4–7, campers are in one group, and for ages 8–11, boys and girls are separated. All groups have a maximum of 1 teacher for every 10 kids, and each unit lasts approximately 45 minutes, with time included for lunch and prayer. Families are asked to send water bottles and lunch for the day, while Friday’s lunch is provided for all attendees. Campers are asked to wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes and to bring prayer clothes for Dhuhr prayer.
The leadership team includes Instructor Indira Kaljo (founder of Almadina Mustangs), Girls Counselor and Lead Sr. Masoma, and Boys Counselor and Lead Br. Kashif. Indira Kaljo holds a Master’s degree in Science with an emphasis in Physical Education and has organized summer and winter camps for youth in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Bosnia, and California over the last twelve years; she has played professional basketball and has been a director of various programs since 2014. Sr. Masoma is a Hafidhah of the Quran with years of hands-on experience teaching at various Islamic summer camps, Sunday schools, and community programs throughout the Bay Area; she founded a literacy nonprofit, coordinated outreach efforts, and served on various leadership boards. Br. Kashif is a senior at San Jose State who finished Hifz in 2018, attended K–8th grade at Northstar Islamic School learning advanced Fiqh, Islamic studies, and Seerah, and has experience teaching children as an after-school maktab teacher for Quran and Islamic studies.
MCC East Bay promotes and supports spiritual, educational, outreach, and social services, ensures a safe and uplifting environment for Muslims in East Bay, fosters new opportunities, provides equity across all programs, and champions a culture of diversity and inclusion. MCC East Bay is described as a multi-ethnic, multi-racial, multi-lingual, non-sectarian, diverse, and open community committed to full and equal participation and involvement of men and women, with a focus on inclusivity and environmental awareness. MCC has a standing policy that financial need should never hold a person back from attending any activity held in the community center, and a financial waiver is available via a scholarship request form. MCC serves the spiritual, educational, social, and cultural needs of the East Bay Muslim community and society, is committed to civic and civil engagement with communities of other faiths and society, and engages in interfaith activities and community and multi-faith outreach work. Future programming at MCC East Bay aims to engage all generations, from youth camping trips to services for young professionals.
