About
Lion Golf Academy offers Lion Cub Development, Junior Development, the Lion Golf Junior Tour, Adult Development, private lessons, Seasonal Camps, an On-Course Transition Class, a Junior Tournament Preparation Program, on-course instruction, rules clinics, and an ongoing tournament program. Lion Cub Development is a 30-minute intro to golf class for little cubs, and Junior Development and Adult Development both use a 350-skill, 12-level system supported by the Lion Players Skills App. Memberships include year-round classes, Seasonal Camps, 90-minute on-course sessions, and member-only clinics, seminars, and events, with small group ratios that can be as low as 4:1 or 2:1 depending on location.
• Ages: 2–18 years old
• Schedule: Lion Cub Development sessions are 30 minutes, Junior and Adult Development use small-group formats with RSVP access to 90-minute on-course classes, and Seasonal Camps (for ages 5 and up) run in Winter, Spring Break, Summer (10–12 weeks total), and Fall.
• Price: Membership tiers start at low monthly pricing and include access to the Players Skills App; members receive priority and reduced fees for the Lion Golf Junior Tour, and Seasonal Camps have equipment provided with early sign-up priority for members and later access for non-members.
Lion Golf Academy has been building skills, friendships, and community since 2016 and has trained thousands of golfers across Southern California. Since 2016, it has also built a give-back program that supports low-income youth.
The leadership team includes founder Tony Brooks, a PGA Legacy Master Professional with 2025 GRAA Elite Status “Top Growth of the Game Professionals in the U.S.” and multiple GRAA “Top 100 Growth of the Game Professionals in the U.S.” awards (2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2018), as well as being voted “Best Golf Instructor in Palm Desert” in 2022. Other instructors include Ryan Davis, a PGA Certified Professional; Bryce Goss, Joseph Plaut, Nate Noblitt, and Euna Kim, who are assistant teaching professionals with PGA Apprentice/Associate or USGTA TPI certifications; and Lester Lagman and Eric Tarakjian, who are assistant teaching professionals. Across the staff, credentials include PGA-certified instructors, PGA-Certified Professionals, ADM Certified, TPI Certified, Henry Griffitts Certified Clubfitter, USGTA TPI certified, and PGA Apprentice/Associate.
Lion Golf Academy states that it is Southern California’s premier full-time player development academy and has been trusted by thousands of families since 2016. It was featured in a year-long GolfTIPS magazine spread on junior golf development and was the only junior program to do this. Many juniors from the program have gone on to play in AJGA and SCPGA events and to earn college scholarships.
The academy’s mission is to build leaders in life, provide a supportive community, and deliver what it describes as the most complete player development experience in the country at an affordable price. Lion Golf Academy also notes in its materials that golfers live 5 years longer than those who do not golf.
Lion Golf Academy donates 20% of profits to support low-income youth locally and through a Cape Flats (Cape Town) partnership with Heal the Hood, covering gear, tee times, lessons, and field trips. For every 10 active students enrolled, the program provides 1 full scholarship for a child whose family cannot afford golf, and through its partnership in South Africa, 20% of profits go toward equipment, lessons, tee times, and field trips for underprivileged youth.
The program uses the Lion Players Skills App to track 350 skills across 12 levels, with leaderboards by location and region and ADM content for age-appropriate development. The Lion Golf Junior Tour serves as the capstone of the Player Pathway, with real competition, weekly points toward seasonal leaderboards, and sectional “Lion Cup” finals between LA and San Diego. Seasonal Camps for ages 5 and up run with 6:1 to 8:1 ratios and include equipment, and private lessons are available for all ages with priority access for active members who have reached Green 1 in the Players Skills App.
Testimonials from families include comments that the coaches make sure kids have fun and do not take themselves too seriously, that one parent highly recommends the program and has asked friends with children to join, and that an 8-year-old child really enjoyed the summer camp and plans to sign up for weekly lessons.
