Oakland Feather River Camp is Oakland’s Sierra Nevada family camp, youth camp, and retreat center. It provides outdoor educational and recreational opportunities for campers of all ages and is embarking on its second century of building community in nature. It has transformed the lives of over 200,000 campers in its first century and has been a valued tradition for generations of Oakland and Northern California families since 1924.

Oakland Feather River Camp was founded by the City of Oakland in 1924 and is the longest-running youth and family recreation program in Oakland. Its mission is to promote and celebrate connections between nature, family, and community by creating unique opportunities to advance environmental appreciation, cultural diversity, and youth empowerment. The camp’s vision is to be a microcosm of Oakland in the mountains, representing the full and rich diversity of the Oakland community and providing outdoor overnight camp experiences. The leadership team includes Executive Director Yasi Safinya, Program Director Nelson Strictland, Finance & Operations Manager Patrick Dwyer, Development & Marketing Director Melissa Birdwell-Marchi, Registrar & Outreach Coordinator Alexa Murdoch, Facilities Manager Vince Yorba, and Facilities Coordinator Ryan Mikaelsen.
Through its Campership & Outreach Program, Oakland Feather River Camp provided over $385,000 in camp scholarships, transportation and gear assistance, and other support to over 530 campers who would not otherwise have had access to its programs. In the referenced year, it served over 2,500 total campers, and its Family Camp program had record-breaking attendance with an 11% increase from 2024. Its OPRYD Youth Camp partnership welcomed 140 youth from every district in Oakland.
