About
Oakland Feather River Camp is Oakland’s Sierra Nevada family camp, youth camp, and retreat center. The program focuses on creating connections between nature, family, and community while promoting environmental appreciation, youth empowerment, and cultural diversity. Its vision is for the camp to be a microcosm of Oakland in the mountains, representing the full and rich diversity of the Oakland community and providing outdoor overnight camp experiences.

Founded by the City of Oakland in 1924, Oakland Feather River Camp has been a valued tradition for generations of Oakland and Northern California families and is embarking on its second century of building community in nature. In its first century, the camp has served over 200,000 campers of all ages and is recognized as the longest-running youth and family recreation program in Oakland. The leadership team includes Executive Director Yasi Safinya, Camp Director Kristi Doebler, Finance & Operations Manager Patrick Dwyer, Registrar & Outreach Coordinator Alexa Murdoch, and Facilities Manager Vince Yorba, with a Development & Marketing Director position to be filled. The camp’s mission is to promote and celebrate connections between nature, family, and community by creating unique opportunities to advance environmental appreciation, cultural diversity, and youth empowerment. Through its Campership & Outreach Program, the camp has provided over $385,000 in camp scholarships, transportation and gear assistance, and other support to over 530 campers who would not otherwise have had access to its programs. Oakland Feather River Camp also partners with OPRYD Youth Camp, welcoming 140 youth from every district in Oakland.
