Contra Costa Youth Service Bureau – Tutoring & Academic Support (Kinship and Workforce Development Programs) offers tutoring and academic support, high school completion and GED support with tutoring, test preparation, and academic counseling, and college and vocational training pathways with assistance for college applications, scholarships, and trade school enrollment. The program also includes career coaching and job readiness training such as resume building, interview skills, workplace professionalism, and career exploration, along with paid internships and job placement assistance. Participants can also take part in financial literacy education focused on budgeting, savings, and financial planning, support groups and peer mentorship, family activities and respite care, transportation assistance, the Independent Living Skills Program (ILSP), and teen and youth development programs such as Girl Scouts and a Teen Girls Group.

Since becoming a nonprofit in 1985, Contra Costa Youth Service Bureau has maintained strong inter-agency collaborations and operates the Kinship Mentoring Program (Family Enhancement Collaborative) in West Contra Costa County. Its Kinship Program assists relative caregivers who have taken custody of minor children due to the absence of their birth parents, and the Kinship Mentoring Program promotes relative caregiving as the first option for displaced children. Licensed therapists and mental health professionals provide individual, family, and group therapy using trauma-informed, culturally responsive approaches, and services are described as trauma-informed and culturally responsive. Wraparound Services provide person-centered, strengths-based, and holistic support for Medi-Cal eligible youth ages 5–21 and their families. Contra Costa Youth Service Bureau is described as the only African American and Latinx-led agency of its kind in Contra Costa County, and its programs are described as family-centered and community-led, with a focus on academic achievement, mentorship, mental health, truancy prevention, and bridging service gaps so families have access to resources, care, and guidance. Its mission statement is to empower at-risk youth and families through trauma-informed, culturally responsive support that builds resilience and well-being.
Contra Costa Youth Service Bureau partners with Contra Costa County Employment & Human Services, Family Stress Center, and Uplift Family Services, and collaborates with Contra Costa County Children and Family Services (CFS) through the Differential Response program. It also collaborates with Today’s Youth Matter, Foster Family Network (Contra Costa County’s local chapter of the CA State Foster Parent Association), and Davis Chapel C.M.E Church Women’s Missionary Society, and serves youth and families in Richmond and Contra Costa County.
