Licensed therapists and mental health professionals provide individual, family, and group therapy using trauma-informed, culturally responsive approaches. The organization’s mission is to empower at-risk youth and families through trauma-informed, culturally responsive support that builds resilience and well-being. Established as a nonprofit in 1985, Contra Costa Youth Service Bureau (CCYSB) is described as a community-led agency with strong inter-agency collaborations and as the only African American and Latinx-led agency of its kind in Contra Costa County. Its unique programs include Wraparound Services for Medi-Cal eligible youth ages 5–21 and their families, a Kinship Program for relative caregivers, a Kinship Mentoring Program that promotes relative caregiving as the first option for displaced children, Workforce Development & Education programs, and Specialty Mental Health Services that use trauma-informed, culturally responsive approaches.

CCYSB partners with Contra Costa County Employment & Human Services, Family Stress Center, Uplift Family Services, and Contra Costa County Children and Family Services on programs that support kinship families and differential response. Foster Family Network collaborates with the Kinship Services Program, and Davis Chapel C.M.E Church Women’s Missionary Society has partnered with CCYSB for over 20 years to provide holiday food boxes, coats, school supplies, and life skills workshops. CCYSB serves children, youth, and families across Richmond and beyond.

Testimonials from community partners describe CCYSB as a faithful and vital partner in work with youth and families, as a collaborator that supports caregivers of vulnerable children, and as a long-term faith-based partner providing human and material resources such as holiday food boxes, coats, school supplies, and life skills workshops.
