About

Steadfast Martial Arts offers training in Jiu Jitsu, wrestling, Muay Thai, combat sports, and kickboxing. The program takes place in an inclusive, state-of-the-art training facility with state-of-the-art training spaces, and walk-ins are welcome. Programs in Jiu Jitsu, wrestling, and Muay Thai are available for both youth and adults in an inclusive training environment for all skill levels and ages.

Steadfast Martial Arts states that it believes in fostering strength, skill, and confidence through inclusive and rigorous training. It offers Jiu Jitsu and other combat sports programs for youth and adults, fostering the tradition of rigorous and technical training to create well rounded fighters and even future instructors, and providing members with the tools to get in shape, develop confidence, and, if interested, become a future Steadfast instructor or black belt. Members have a facility to train hard and feel safe while learning various martial arts, with a focus on building confidence, getting in shape, and mastering combat sports, within a supportive community and state-of-the-art facility.

The leadership team includes instructor, competitor, and head of the grappling program Caleb Khan; Muay Thai coach for youth and adults Jon Lawrence; martial arts instructor Anita Shammee; Wrestling Coach Gian Traverso; and Jiu-Jitsu Instructor Alan Joyce. Caleb Khan is a black belt under Eduardo Fraga and Ralph Gracie and is the head of the grappling program at Steadfast Martial Arts. Jon Lawrence began his Muay Thai training at Cheetah Muay Thai in Oakland in 2010, trained at Rawai Muay Thai in 2014, started KickSmart (a program that combined Muay Thai training with meditation in public schools in Richmond and Oakland), coached youth and adults at PFMMA in Albany associated with UFC veteran Tyson Griffin, and offered free kickboxing training to Oakland youth at Guardian Gym in Oakland. Anita Shammee began martial arts at age 8 in Enshin Karate under Nima Mazhari in Falls Church, VA, trained there 15 years, won 5 world championships from 2012 to 2016, moved to California in 2016, began training jiu-jitsu at Ralph Gracie Berkeley, and received her Black Belt from Eduardo Fraga in 2024.

Community involvement connected to the program includes Jon Lawrence’s KickSmart program, which combined Muay Thai training with meditation in public schools all over Richmond and Oakland, and his free kickboxing training for Oakland youth at Guardian Gym in Oakland. Anita Shammee’s record includes 5 world championships from 2012 to 2016.
