About

UCR ARTS Kids & Families Programs take place within UCR ARTS, which brings together the California Museum of Photography and the Barbara & Art Culver Center of the Arts. Families can experience photography collections and contemporary art collections as part of these programs.

• Schedule: Open Thursday and Friday from 12 pm–5 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 11 am–5 pm

UCR ARTS includes the California Museum of Photography, founded in 1973, and the Barbara & Art Culver Center of the Arts, opened in 2010. The California Museum of Photography has more than 500,000 pieces in its collection, spanning the history of photography, and the Culver Center has over 1,500 works of contemporary art. The Culver Center includes a 72-seat state-of-the-art film and video screening room that exhibits more than 250 different films every year and is one of a few venues in the region to screen independent, foreign, documentary, and experimental films. The Coil Atrium Gallery is used for exhibitions, music, and performances under a 35-foot skylight, and the second floor of the Culver Center contains an incubator for advanced research in the arts, dance studios, and a black-box theater. UCR ARTS states that it strives to advance the understanding and appreciation of the arts through experiences in contemporary visual and performing art, photography, and photographic technologies, and that it engages both global and regional communities through exhibitions, artist projects, performances, and community programs. Programs at UCR ARTS are supported by the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at UCR, the City of Riverside, and the Voy and Fay Wong Family (AAPI) Endowment. UCR ARTS is described as the West Coast’s premier university photography museum and contemporary art center and as an international arts hub and research center. The leadership team includes Summer Clark, Communications Representative; Amy Metcalf, Senior Events Manager; Allissa Payne, Finance & Visitor Services Assistant; Steffanie Padilla, Education Programs Manager; Nikolay Maslov, Curator of Special Projects and Curator of Film and Media Projects; Kathryn Poindexter-Akers, Head of Exhibitions; Alyse Yeargan, Collections Manager; and Katherine Vieser, Director of Development, CHASS.
