K-12 STEM Education Programs – Marlan and Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering includes hands-on engineering activities, virtual project activities and demos, presentations, and student project opportunities. Program options cover design, coding, and robotics, including building functioning robots and using a controller application to interact with them. Some activities involve analyzing results from the annual Riverside County homelessness survey, learning coding and computer science through Kindles, and developing apps with real-world applications. Other offerings include a five-week summer research training program related to stem cells and regenerative medicine, an introduction to Artificial Intelligence with topics such as security, fairness, and privacy, learning to code with Python, and participating in interactive AI projects.

The Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement Program (MESA) has 50+ years of serving communities and works with educationally disadvantaged students from the Inland Empire to help middle and high school students excel in math and science and encourage them to graduate with math-based degrees. The college is home to the largest MESA center in the state. Bourns Engineering Day is hosted by the college's Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and has become the largest STEM event in Riverside County, bringing together more than 1,200 students. Dia de Ciencias is hosted by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE). StepCon is hosted in partnership with Bourns, Inc., the Science and Technology Education Partnership, and engages hundreds of K-12 students, teachers, and administrators. UCR Summer Engineering Program is hosted by UCR's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in partnership with Redlands Unified School District. Data Science Academy is hosted by UCR's Department of Computer Science and Engineering in partnership with Riverside Unified School District. Artificial Intelligence Camp is hosted by UCR's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in partnership with Redlands Unified School District and includes social impacts of AI such as security, fairness, and privacy. FIRST LEGO League is a guided, global robotics program.
