Synergy Jiu-Jitsu Academy has been teaching Jiu-Jitsu in Rocklin since 2009 and has over a 10-year history. The kids’ program teaches the art and science of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to kids 5 to 16 years old, with a variety of classes based on age and skill level. For ages 5–9, there is an emphasis on bully prevention and stranger awareness, and for ages 9–15, there is an emphasis on foundational techniques for the sportive aspect of Jiu Jitsu, situational bully defense, and a heavy emphasis on sparring and preparation for competition. Across the kids’ program, there is a heavy emphasis on age-appropriate character-building lessons.

The academy’s motto for the kids’ program is “Healthy, Happy, Smart.” It is home to one of the best Jiu Jitsu programs in Northern California and has full-time, professional instructors with decades of experience teaching martial arts to kids, with 60 years of experience collectively between them.

For trial classes, the program recommends that the child comes in a t-shirt and shorts that they do not mind getting sweaty in, and the academy provides a loaner gi (uniform) that can be slipped on over clothes. They recommend that the child wears flip flops to make it easier to put on or remove shoes. A parent or guardian is required to fill out a student application and waiver before the first trial class. If signing up, the child will be required to purchase a uniform, commonly called a “gi,” and the academy does not sell gis and recommends purchasing them online, noting that Amazon has competitively priced gis with sizing charts based on height, weight, and wingspan.
