About
Adventure Recreation offers gymnastics, tumbling, ninja warrior training, wrestling, soccer, diving, and recreational gymnastics, including an Xcel team. The program also runs creative camps, summer, fall, winter, and spring break camps, toddler programs, team games, homeschool days with curriculum support, PE, art, and science experiments, as well as Kids Night Out events, open gym sessions, and birthday parties.
• Ages: 0–16 years old
• Schedule: All Age/Open Gym sessions are 1.5 hours, Kids Night Out events run from 5:30–8:30pm, birthday party experiences are 1 hour 45 minutes, and new members can access 4 weeks of classes.
• Price: $15 for drop-in open gym or punch card options, Kids Night Out at $32 per child with 5% off siblings, and a new member special of 4 weeks for $99.
Homeschool Days allow kids 4 years and older to be dropped off, and children 3 and under are asked to be accompanied by an adult. Parents are welcome to stay and watch any programs, and there is no need to register ahead for open gym sessions, while Kids Night Out events ask for advance registration. Assistance hours run Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm, and Saturday and Sunday by appointment or party reservation.
Adventure Recreation’s mission is to empower children to grow physically and emotionally by building their confidence one skill at a time. The leadership is headed by Coach Andrea, an entrepreneur, coach, and community spokesperson who graduated from Humboldt State University in 2008 with a Bachelor’s in Recreation Administration and a Minor in Business, bought Athletics Unlimited at age 26 and operated it for five years, ran toddler programs, gymnastics, and Ninja Warrior from 2012 to 2017, focused on recreational gymnastics and Ninja Warrior from 2017, started an Xcel team in 2023, led and developed an alternative elementary school program during Covid, and moved programs into SoMo Village in 2025. Coaches include Andrea, Laini, Ella, Rayan, and Makena, who bring experience in recreation administration, Xcel Platinum competition, Junior Olympics Level 10, martial arts, and long-term involvement in the gym.
One parent, A. McCall, reports that a daughter has grown up with Adventure Recreation, feels supported and challenged by the coaching staff, and that the family appreciates flexible classes during other sports seasons. Another parent, A. Hillstead, shares that three children have attended for years for tumble classes, ninja classes, explore time, and summer camps, and notes that the coaches are friendly and that class times can overlap to fit siblings’ schedules.
