Adventure Recreation Camps and Classes has operated toddler programs, gymnastics, and Ninja Warrior from 2012 to 2017, focused more on recreational gymnastics and Ninja Warrior from 2017, and started an Xcel team in 2023. The owner and leader, Coach Andrea, graduated from Humboldt State University in 2008 with a Bachelor's in Recreation Administration and a Minor in Business, competed in the JO (Junior Olympic) gymnastics program for a few years, started an Xcel team in 2023, and led and developed an alternative elementary school program for first through sixth grade during Covid. Coach Andrea is an entrepreneur, coach, community spokesperson, and mom who bought Athletics Unlimited at age 26 and operated it for five years.

The program’s mission is: “Our mission is to empower children to grow physically and emotionally by building their confidence one skill at a time. Through Tumble & Warrior Class, Camps, Open Gyms, Day Camps, Micro-School, Kids Night Out and more, we provide a safe and welcoming environment where kids of all ages and abilities can learn and thrive.” Adventure Recreation Camps and Classes offers small group sizes in camps, groups kids by age or by theme, and offers camps all year round when school is out. Jr. Coaches are invited from age 12 (going into 7th grade) through teens. Explorer Camp is for kids aged 4–6, Art & Tumble Camp is for kids aged 7 and older, Builders Camp is for children aged 7 and up with LEGO building, woodworking, circuit boards, planes and rockets, Cheer Camp is for campers 7 years and older with a performance on Friday for parents, and Science Camp is for kids aged 7 and older with volcanoes, DIY lava lamps, tornados and more.

Gymnastics Camp includes skills on Vault, Bars, Beam and Floor, with routines performed on the last day and a leotard or t-shirt included. Nerf Short Camp includes designing targets and battles, and Art & Tumble Short Camps combine tumbling and art projects. Short Camp can be an extension of regular day camp for ages 4–12 and includes science, art, STEM projects, and physical activities. Homeschool Days allow kids 4 years and older to be dropped off for curriculum support, PE, art, science experiments and more. Bumble Bee Academy serves ages 0–4 years, and Adaptive Ninja classes are offered with small class sizes.

Open Gym is designed for all ages and skill levels. Open Gym sessions are 1.5 hours, birthday parties are 1 hour 45 minutes, and Kids Night Out events are 3 hours from 5:30–8:30pm. Kids Night Out rotates one Friday per month from 5:30–8:30pm, with specific events listed such as Friday May 5 and Friday June 12 for drop off ages 4 years and older. Homeschool Drop Off runs Fridays from 9–11:30am. Children must be potty trained and at least 4 years old to be dropped off, and children 3 and under should be accompanied by an adult. Parents are welcome to stay to watch, and parents can register for Drop-Ins, Open Gyms, or Kids Night Out to get kid-free time.

Coach and parent check-ins happen at drop off and pick up, and supervision is provided throughout all events, with safety in activities through progression and learning. Coaches have diverse backgrounds and unique leadership styles, share a love of working with kids, and the program focuses on confidence, community, creativity, progression, leadership, and fun. The program is located within SOMO Village alongside local businesses such as Old Caz Brewery, SOMOfit, and the Crafted Cup, which encourages parents to visit these while kids attend programs.

Parent feedback includes: “My daughter has grown up with Adventure Recreation. She feels supported and challenged by the great coaching staff. We love the flexibility of classes when our schedules are busy during other sports seasons. Highly recommend for kids that love to tumble and want to learn to do skills properly!” (A. McCall). Another parent shares: “Our three children have been going to Adventure Rec for years. We’ve done it all—tumble classes, ninja classes, explore time, summer camps, etc. and my kids can’t get enough. Their coaches are super friendly and fun. I especially appreciate that they have enough class time offerings to overlap my children’s different classes on the same hour. Highly recommend.” (A. Hillstead).
