About
UCP of the North Bay Recreation Programs include activities such as Summer Bike / Swim Camp, Camp Kaos, Cypress Summer Day Camp, Surf Camp, Bike Camp, Swim Camp, and Summer and Winter Residential Camps at Camp Arroyo. Participants take part in hiking, train rides, carousel rides, paddle boating, canoeing, arts and crafts, outdoor games, kayaking, surfing, sea kayaking, white water river rafting, and cross country skiing. Camp Kaos is a four-day camp that includes Howarth Park attractions such as paddle boats, carousel rides, and train rides, and Bike/Swim Camp uses specially designed equipment and teaching methods to teach riding a conventional two-wheeled bicycle, followed by a “learn through play” swim activity.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Camp Kaos 2026 runs August 3–6, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM
UCP of the North Bay is a locally run 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1981 after the merger of UCP of Marin (1954) and UCP of Sonoma (1969). Its mission is to enhance the quality of life of people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities, their families, and their communities. Camp Kaos serves children ages 6–22 with physical and developmental disabilities, and additional Camp Kaos activities are adapted for all campers to fully participate. Supervision and support at Camp Kaos is provided by Camp Counselors (staff) and volunteers from Sonoma State University and local high schools. Bike/Swim Camp teaches campers with developmental and/or physical disabilities ages 8–22 how to ride a conventional two-wheeled bicycle using specially designed equipment and teaching methods, and UCPNB’s 2024 Summer Bike/Swim Camp provides specialized instruction and adaptive techniques in a nurturing environment for children with disabilities. Adventure Trips provide safe risk-taking, self-esteem building experiences for adults with developmental disabilities, including sea kayaking as a one-day camp, white water river rafting as a two-day overnight, and cross country skiing as a three-day overnight, with supervision and support from UCP of the North Bay staff members and skilled volunteers from Environmental Traveling Companions (ETC). UCPNB’s Adult Day Recreation programs offer a wide range of enriching activities tailored to individuals’ interests and needs, and its social enterprise programs provide vocational training and meaningful work experience for individuals with disabilities.
United Cerebral Palsy of the North Bay partnered with Sonoma County Regional Parks, Spectrum Surf and Environmental Training Companions to provide Shoreline Camp, which was sponsored by The Coastal Conservancy. The United Cerebral Palsy Foundation of the North Bay is described as a dynamic nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with cerebral palsy and related disabilities. The recreation programs take place in different locations throughout Napa, Sonoma, Marin, and Solano counties for both children and adults with disabilities and teach leisure and social skills that support independent participation in recreation activities with family members and friends. The recreation team includes Danielle Schulze, Recreation Coordinator, and Jen Whalen, Director of Community Programs. One parent shared, “I am incredibly thankful for UCP of the North Bay’s Bike and Swim Camp and the profound impact it has had on my son Nico.”
