The coaching staff includes Coach Andrea, who graduated from Humboldt State University in 2008 with a Bachelor’s in Recreation Administration and a Minor in Business, bought Athletics Unlimited at age 26 and operated it for five years, operated toddler programs, gymnastics, and Ninja Warrior from 2012 to 2017, focused on recreational gymnastics and Ninja Warrior from 2017, started an Xcel team in 2023, led and developed an alternative elementary school program for first–sixth grade during Covid, and moved into SoMo Village in 2025. The staff also includes Coach Laini, who competed as an Xcel Platinum gymnast; Coach Ella, who competed at Junior Olympics Level 10 in gymnastics; Coach Rayan, who has years of Martial Arts experience; Coach Makena, who grew up in the gym while her mom Andrea coached; Coach Aya, who loves Wrestling and Soccer and is a Real Madrid fan; and Coach Josie, who loves fishing. Coaches emphasize safety with coach and parent check-ins at drop off and pickup, supervision throughout all events, and safety in activities through progression and learning, and they share a focus on confidence, community, creativity, progression, leadership, and fun.

The mission of the program is to empower children to grow physically and emotionally by building their confidence one skill at a time. The leadership team is headed by Coach Andrea as entrepreneur, coach, community spokesperson, and gym owner. Jr. Coaches are invited from age 12 (going into 7th grade) through the teen years.

Adventure Recreation describes a community vibe at SOMO Village that is invigorating and notes that it is two doors down from Old Caz Brewery and next to SOMOfit, with some parents choosing to enjoy SOMOfit or Old Caz while kids attend programs. One parent testimonial states that a daughter has grown up with Adventure Recreation, feels supported and challenged by the coaching staff, and that the family appreciates flexible classes during busy sports seasons. Another parent shares that three children have attended tumble classes, ninja classes, explore time, and summer camps for years, that the kids enjoy the programs, and that overlapping class times for siblings are helpful.
