Founded in 1881, AAUW promotes equity for all women and girls, and the Healdsburg Branch of AAUW was founded in 1975. AAUW’s mission is to advance gender equity for women and girls through research, education and advocacy, and AAUW is widely recognized for research that shapes national-level discussions on topics such as the pay gap, sexual harassment and the underrepresentation of women in science and engineering. Instructors in these STEM programs include teachers and professional women in STEM-related careers. Tech Trek is a week-long academic residential camp featuring hands-on STEM activities for girls entering 8th grade, and 7th grade girls are nominated by their teachers and go through a selection process that includes application essays and interviews by the Branch Selection Committee. The Tech Trek Alumni Group (TTAG) focuses on encouraging Tech Trek alumni to stay connected to STEM-talented, like-minded girls from middle school through high school, builds upon the work of GEMS (Girls Engaged in Math and Science), and includes AAUW mentors who help TTAG participants plan and host their own STEM-related programs and community events. Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) is a national organization that has merged with TechBridge Girls, and for over 30 years the Sonoma County EYH chapter has hosted an annual one-day, hands-on workshop conference exposing 7th and 8th grade girls to STEAM careers requiring a math and science background.
AAUW Healdsburg Branch is proud to be able to send local girls to Tech Trek camp, and in 2024 the Branch sponsored eight young ladies to Tech Trek Camp Franklin at Sonoma State from Cali, Windsor, Cloverdale and Healdsburg schools. The Branch provided a total of six class monitors for both core class subjects and field trips, and AAUW member Dr. Mary Barsony partnered with Robert Ferguson Observatory. The local AAUW branches in Healdsburg, Petaluma and Santa Rosa support the Expanding Your Horizons conference with donations and volunteers. The Healdsburg Branch of AAUW serves the Cloverdale, Geyserville, Healdsburg and Windsor communities and furthers the AAUW mission through member contributions and fundraising efforts to provide scholarships and support local education programs through grants and member volunteer efforts. Membership in AAUW is open to people who hold an associate degree or higher, and also to students working toward a degree, with no barriers to full participation based on gender, race, religion or creed, sexual orientation or gender identity, disability or class.
The 2026–2027 Healdsburg Branch Board of Directors includes President Celeste Plaister, Secretary Pam Jones, Treasurer Renée Simi, Past President Nancy Jane Andrews, Communications Director Leslie Moreland, Fundraising Director Julie Hanamura, Membership Director Donna Campoverde, K–12 Education Director Cristi Cameron, Scholarships Director Ann Elston, Social Activities Director Mary Newman, STEM Director Anna-Laura Jansma, and Community Outreach Director Barbara Reid, with the Vice President and Public Policy Director positions listed as open.
