About
California Waterfowl Education Programs include an overnight camp where participants practice calling, learn about decoy spreads, work on shot selection, and study waterfowl ID. The programs also include camps that teach the nuts and bolts of waterfowl hunting and conservation, and they use educational materials such as worksheets, lessons, and presentations for grade levels Pre-K–12. The Junior Duck Stamp program is an annual art contest where K–12 students enter waterfowl artwork into the Junior Duck Stamp Contest.

California Waterfowl was founded in 1945 as the Duck Hunters Association of California. California Waterfowl is a 501c3 organization whose mission is to protect the future of waterfowl conservation and hunting in California, through advocacy, education, and habitat stewardship. CWA’s education programs get kids outside, and some educational resources require access to the outdoors while others can be done in the home. Many of the camps also include Hunter Education, so campers can earn their Hunter Ed certificate, which is the prerequisite for getting a hunting license in California. CWA offers a number of scholarships to get youth into the field and support educational goals, and CWA’s College Camp is a collaborative effort with multiple universities that aims to bridge the gap between the classroom and the active management of waterfowl populations. The California Wood Duck Program is largely run by volunteers who over more than thirty years have helped bring the wood duck population back to a thriving level across the Pacific Flyway. The education department has taught 181,000 students about waterfowl, wetlands, and the role hunters play in conservation, and California Waterfowl uses its properties for wetland conservation, to offer hunting for the general public, and to provide educational programs for school children and hunters.
