International Dance Arts Collective

International Dance Arts Collective offers cultural dance and music classes, dance and music training for youth, and cultural dance instruction coordinated with California education standards. The program includes community dance instruction at events, dance instruction for family, community, and corporate events, and dance education in the classroom coordinated with the social studies curriculum. Students may also take part in performances by IDAC performance teams and participate in international folk festivals with the American Dance Arts Collective summer touring team, which focuses on American historical dances during the spring semester.

International Dance Arts Collective was founded by Alexandra Shadle in 2021. Its mission is to foster peace, love, and appreciation of all cultures and people within the local community and beyond by providing education and performance opportunities for children and youth through world, cultural, and historical dance and music. International Dance Arts Collective has university trained cultural arts educators with years of teaching experience and supports artists teaching their own cultural dances and music.

The leadership team includes Founder and Artistic Director and President of the Board Alexandra Shadle; Lead Dance Collective Educator and Board Member Staci Johnson; Lead Clogging Educator and Board Member Heather Robinson; Operations and Marketing Specialist Anastasia Rowe; African Drum and Dance Educator Olivia Yasmin; Administrative and Operations Assistant Devon Halloran; Flamenco Dance Educator Dani Serrano; Associate Dance and Tap Educator Amy Ray; Associate Dance Educators Claire Schmidtlein and Sophie Schmidtlein; Associate Clogging Educator Jillian Iverson; Folk Choir Director Josanna Hansen; Board Members Sarah Bailey, Lakshmi Pillai, and Ben Shadle; and Vice President of the Board Matt Schmidtlein. International Dance Arts Collective is a 501(c)3 nonprofit with a mission to promote peace and preserve cultural dance and music, is an ACPC 2025 grant recipient, and its USA branch, American Dance Arts Collective, is a member of CIOFF USA and the CIOFF International community.

The program offers local cultural festivals, school assemblies, and international cultural exchange trips, and teaches children and youth in public schools. It offers cultural dance and music classes for all ages, school teacher training on using cultural dance and music in the classroom, and cultural arts experiences open to the broader community. As members of CIOFF, American Dance Arts Collective preserves and disseminates cultural music and dance in a respectful and authentic way with the stated mission of creating intercultural connection and peace, and the organization states that it teaches cultural dances from around the world and IDAC Core Values.

International Dance Arts Collective offers unique performance and service opportunities for performers at local cultural festivals, school assemblies, and international cultural exchange trips, and participates in international folk festivals with its USA branch, American Dance Arts Collective. The program provides need-based scholarships and awards need-based scholarships to IDAC participants, offers service, sponsorship, and donation opportunities, and states that “We bring the world to Rocklin!” The organization states that it is committed to ensuring that individuals with disabilities can fully participate in its programs and services, aims to expand equitable access regardless of financial circumstance, and aims to expand access to free and low-cost cultural arts experiences open to the broader community.

International Dance Arts Collective also aims to provide equitable cultural arts education opportunities for students in public schools, increase language accessibility so multilingual families can fully engage, and enhance accessibility for individuals with disabilities in programs, performances, and facilities. It aims to support neurodivergent inclusion by creating welcoming environments that meet a variety of sensory and participation needs, foster inclusive community connection through intergenerational and participatory programming, and ensure authentic cultural representation by presenting a wide range of cultural traditions with integrity, respect, and educational context. One dancer shared, “I like IDAC because you get to dance with your friends.”
