Sparrow5 Art Classes offers hands-on projects such as Paint your Pet, Art Journaling, Mixed Media, Alcohol Inks, Gelli Plate, Tricks of Drawing, Skateboard Heart, Think Out of the Box, Art Journaling Techniques, and Canvas Painting. Classes take place inside a working art store that features unique gifts, vintage items, artwork, and collectibles created from materials like recycled woods, metals, rocks, and sea glass.

Sparrow5 opened in 2013 in Old Town Roseville on Vernon Street. The space has been described as an “off-the-beaten-path, destination space where artists would gather and create,” “an amusement park for the eyes,” and “the Soho of the West.” The store showcases the work of more than 75 Northern California artists, including furniture, repurposed musical instruments, and art and garden accessories made from various recycled materials.
Creators M. and Taylor envisioned and opened Sparrow5, and M. teaches weekly art classes within the studio. M. is a commercial and residential interior designer with more than 30 years of experience, and M.’s artwork has sold in exclusive galleries within the Napa Valley and is offered for purchase in the store.
Parents and visitors have shared comments such as calling Sparrow5 “my therapy” and “my addiction,” and describing it as “a Greenwich-Village-like shopping experience.” One parent described the Paint your Pet class as one of the best “paint & sip” experiences they had ever had. Another visitor described attending a two-day Art Retreat where M. provided a box of supplies, set up a large, peaceful space, and offered encouragement that inspired their imagination.
