• Schedule: Classes meet Monday–Wednesday, 7:30am–3:00pm
• Price: Since 1993, NCCT has been providing FREE pre-apprenticeship training designed to launch careers in the building trades.
NCCT is a building trades pre-apprenticeship training program that prepares men and women for entry into various construction trades apprenticeship training programs and introduces students to more than 22 different trades within the industry. Since 1993, NCCT has been providing free pre-apprenticeship training designed to launch careers in the building trades. The program’s mission is to prepare and place motivated individuals into apprenticeship programs and meaningful careers in construction.
Classes are taught by certified journeyman instructors with years of industry expertise, including instructor Chris Faix. Program contacts include Vicky Trask and Heather (email: [email protected]). As part of the training, students have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications that employers value, including OSHA 10, HAZWOPER, Welding, Traffic Flagging, CPR & First Aid, and Traffic Control.
NCCT includes remedial education and GED preparation if needed, as well as life skills training such as punctuality, teamwork, and maintaining a drug-free lifestyle. The program offers employment barrier assistance to help students overcome challenges and stay on track toward their goals. Some NCCT sites also offer GED preparation and testing, and NCCT partners with community organizations to provide access to needed resources.
Students have helped build homes, parks, and community projects under the supervision of certified journeyman instructors with years of industry expertise. Requirements for participation include being able to work as part of a team, get up early and arrive on time, work outdoors, and remain drug and alcohol free. Participants must be enrolled with the Come Back Kids Charter School, and NCCT requests documentation such as a completed application, Social Security card, valid California ID and/or driver’s license, current DMV printout, GED certificate and/or high school diploma (with GED certification available through the program), Alien Registration Card, and Selective Service card for those 18 to 25 years old; students under 18 must be engaged in an Adult Education Program or Independent Studies, and those without all documents may still enroll and work on gathering them during the program.
Testimonials from former students describe learning proper work habits such as time management, problem-solving, self-confidence, and being a team player, as well as gaining practical construction skills and certifications that supported finding employment. Graduates report experiences such as tracking job progress, planning and reading blueprint specifications, and receiving wages and benefits from employers, and some note that they joined straight out of high school and obtained jobs in their chosen field in less than a year. Several students specifically mention the hands-on training, guidance from instructors, and the culture of the NCCT team in their feedback.
