Tao of the Tiger Martial Arts & Karate opened in 2005 and has been teaching karate and self defense to kids and adults of all ages since July 2005. The program was opened in 2005 to enhance community safety by implementing anti-bully and karate programs and offers a semi private black belt program that teaches respect, integrity, courage, and self-discipline. Its mission statement notes that karate teaches character development while practicing a self defense skill, and that fitness for all develops strength, endurance, and flexibility.

Black belt instructors at Tao of the Tiger Martial Arts & Karate have over 30 years of experience in martial arts and self defense. Instructor Shihan William Meyers began martial arts in 1980 due to bullies, trained in Okinawa Kenpo, Okinawa wa-te ryu, and Kung-fu, started American Kenpo training in 1996, received his first black belt in Kenpo in 1998, started teaching in 2004, opened the dojo in 2005, and received his 5th black belt in Kenpo in 2013.

The program has held many community seminars and clinics, including a self defense and awareness seminar at the Sacramento Sheraton Hotel in December 2006, a children anti-bully seminar at Collins P. Huntington in November 2007, and a women and children safety awareness clinic in August 2009. It also held an anti-bully and safety seminar at James W. Marshall Elementary in October 2010, a women-only safety and awareness seminar in December 2012, and partnered with the Sacramento START program and James W. Marshall in June 2013 and May 2014 to provide a fitness regiment to a 4th grade class. In August 2015 it held a youth anti-bully seminar at the Sacramento Boys and Girls Club, in July 2019 it partnered with the Police Activities League to promote children’s safety, and in October 2019 it partnered with the Better Business Bureau to give a women and children’s self defense seminar. The program also notes that mentioning seeing it on a specific website allows a participant to receive the first three classes free.
