About

Play-Well TEKnologies Enrichment Programs offers an Engineering with LEGO enrichment program where students work on design and building assignments, challenges, performance testing, competitions, and modifications to projects. During these activities, students explore concepts in physics, architecture, mechanical engineering, and structural engineering. The program also offers Play-Well At-Home Videos, Summer Camps, After School and Homeschool Classes, and Birthday Parties.

• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Schedule: Classes typically meet once per week before or after school for an entire quarter (Fall/Winter/Spring), and session duration is generally 90 minutes.
• Price: Pricing varies based on area, course being offered, number of sessions, etc.

Play-Well TEKnologies describes its core programs for elementary students as Adventures in STEM and STEM Explorations, and offers LEGO-inspired engineering classes for kids in grades K–8. Each meeting starts with a short discussion and demonstration of the day’s topic, and students work individually, in teams, and as a group throughout the sessions. Instructors provide individual assistance and instruction, and an assistant instructor may be added at Play-Well’s discretion. The program uses tens of thousands of LEGO pieces, and all materials for the course are provided each week, with no LEGO pieces sent home after camp. Class minimums and maximums vary by area and school and depend on room size, age level, and availability of parent volunteers.

According to the mission statement, Play-Well TEKnologies aims to offer an environment where students can create without fear of mistakes, explore fundamental STEM concepts through play, and express their creativity in new ways. The organization notes that these programs are not authorized, sponsored or endorsed by the LEGO Group. The leadership team includes President Tim Bowen; Vice President of Administration and Human Resources Meredith Bowen; Vice President of Operations Jennifer Gaona; Regional Managers Mike Spee, Michael Beddall, and Tasha Rodriquez; and Office and Administrative Manager Devon Lee. The staff includes instructors with varied careers and educational backgrounds, including mechanical engineering, architecture, biology, art, geology, education, and civil engineering.

Parent testimonials describe instructors as well-organized, fun, and “5-star,” and note that the program “stays strong” regardless of the instructor. Parents report that children “had a blast,” “cannot wait to attend each week,” and “LOVE the creativity,” and one parent describes a child independently building motorized cars, a double belt and double pulley driven gondola, a belt and pulley driven escalator, and a facsimile of an egg beater after attending class. Another parent comments that the class “works with all sorts of kids,” that “nothing is ‘wrong,’” and that instructors are “so cool with the kids.”
