About
Faster Freestyle Swim Faster Now Youth Clinics offers a swim faster now youth clinic where kids learn how to swim all the strokes faster with less energy. During the clinic, participants work on quicker turns with rocket-fast streamlines, diving like a dolphin if blocks are available, wiggling less to swim straighter, and learning the “secret” to improving their times year after year. The clinic also includes motivational components for both parents and kids and time to discuss many swimming related topics, including stroke technique, open water strategies, effective open-water strategies, tactics, sighting and drafting, breathing techniques for all types of conditions, and how to relax, float and swim straighter.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: The workshop length is three hours and consists of one hour of dry discussion of many swimming related topics and stroke technique, followed by about two hours of pool time.
• Price: Cost is $125 and includes a custom silicone swim cap, supporting material and snacks.
The clinic is led by swim technique coach Karlyn Pipes, a Hall of Fame swimmer, along with assistants. Karlyn and her assistants have current certifications in Lifeguard, CPR and First Aide. The Faster Freestyle clinic is a teaching session, not a training session, and the workshop is not three hours of swimming nor a strenuous training session. Total time is 3.5 hours, and water time is about two hours with plenty of start/stop, drills and easy swimming, and space is limited to 12 for some clinics.
Local USA, US Masters Swimming, YMCA and High School coaches can audit the clinic on deck for free, and in appreciation for hosting an event, one swimmer or coach may attend the clinic in the water for free. Faster Freestyle Swim Camps are also offered year-round in Hawaii, Fiji, Mexico, Sicily, Albania, and British Columbia, and all Faster Freestyle Swim Camps in Kona, Hawaii include a private Endless Pool session.
One parent testimonial states, “I improved so much after taking your Faster Freestyle Swim Clinic. My times continue to drop and now swimming is much more fun. One month after taking your clinic, I dropped almost 15 seconds in my 200-free. Considering I’ve been a swimmer all my life, I think that’s pretty amazing! I’ll be back the next time you come to town for a refresher. Thanks!” (Tere O’rourke, 2024).
