About
Swim Faster Now Youth Clinics focuses on stroke technique and specific skills such as learning how to swim all the strokes faster with less energy, wiggling less to swim straighter, and learning how to relax, float, and swim straighter. Participants work on quicker turns with rocket-fast streamlines, diving like a dolphin if blocks are available, and a Faster Freestyle mini-clinic. The clinic also includes effective open-water strategies, tactics, sighting and drafting, breathing techniques for all types of conditions, and motivational components for both parents and kids, along with discussion of many swimming related topics.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: The workshop is three hours long, with one hour of dry discussion of many swimming related topics and stroke technique, followed by about two hours of pool time.
• Price: Cost is $125 and includes a custom silicone swim cap, supporting material and snacks.
The clinic is a teaching session, not a training session, and the workshop is not three hours of swimming nor a strenuous training session. Cost includes a custom silicone swim cap, supporting material and snacks, and space is limited. YMCA pools tend to be warmer than competition pools, and staying warm is stated as key to learning. Local USA, US Masters Swimming, YMCA and High School coaches are invited to audit the clinic on deck for free, and host housing is preferred to keep costs down. There is no risk and no travel fees in most cases; if there are not enough people to host the clinic, it is simply canceled.
Swim technique coach Karlyn Pipes is a Hall of Fame swimmer, and Karlyn and her assistants have current certifications in Lifeguard, CPR and First Aide. One testimonial from Tere O’rourke in 2024 states that after taking the Faster Freestyle Swim Clinic, her times continued to drop, swimming became more fun, and she dropped almost 15 seconds in her 200-free one month after the clinic, and that she plans to return for a refresher.
