• Ages: 5–18 years old
For more than two decades, families in San Clemente have trusted Guillobel Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and some families have trained there together for multiple years. All classes, including the kids classes, are taught by black belts. The academy offers women’s only classes, adult co-ed classes, a Saturday morning Family Jiujitsu class, a Recovery Room, an annual BBQ, and in house tournaments for kids and adults. Students receive free access to Guillobel’s Inner Circle e-Newsletter with new BJJ tutorial videos and life skills lessons every month.
The program is led by Paulo Guillobel, a 6th Degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, author, and founder of Guillobel Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu San Clemente Academy, who has been teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 1993. Guillobel is a proud member of the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, and the academy’s lineage is Carlos Gracie Sr. – Helio Gracie – Rickson Gracie – Jorge Pereira – Paulo Guillobel. Guillobel Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy has been voted the Best Martial Arts School in San Clemente by the San Clemente Times for 12 consecutive years (2014–2025).
Paulo and the Guillobel Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu team have helped thousands of people in their community and around the globe to empower themselves using the teachings and principles of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and character development. The stated mission is “to empower our students, their families, our community, and the world by making a positive impact through Martial Arts and Character Development,” including equipping students with knowledge, mindset, skills, and a family-like environment.
Parents describe Guillobel Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a staple for their families over several years, with one parent noting that all members of the family train in different class options, including women’s only and adult co-ed classes, and that they enjoy the Saturday morning Family Jiujitsu class, annual BBQ, and in house tournaments. Another parent reports that her son, who was excruciatingly shy and uncomfortable with physical contact, gained social confidence through training. A long-time adult student reports training with Sensei Paulo since 2015 and describes the environment as welcoming and encouraging. Another family notes that they have trained there for four years and that Paulo and Esteban have become mentors for both the parents and the kids.
