Callan Swim School offers swim lessons through a structured 8-step swim program, as well as swim parties and adult swim classes. The program uses proven training techniques for all ages and abilities in a fun swimming environment and starts taking kids as early as 3 months old. Families are asked to bring a swimsuit, a towel, and something to keep long hair secured for lessons.

For the last 6 decades, 3 generations of the Callan family have been teaching San Diegans to swim, with a stated desire to help the San Diego community. Callan Swim School is a family owned and operated business with certified and experienced instructors, and it describes its staff as the most experienced in San Diego County. The school maintains a 93° pool temperature year round in a custom facility that was designed and built for teaching infants and young children to swim, with a warm, relaxed aquatic environment intended to produce fluid, energy-efficient and relaxed swimmers.
The program is based on the Murray Callan Soft-Touch, No Fear Technique and follows a structured 8-step program. The Callan Swim Promise states that the school aims to exceed expectations and address any dissatisfaction. The mission of Callan Swim School states that its certified instructors have years of experience and a passion for teaching kids how to swim, and that swimming is viewed as a life skill everyone deserves.
Murray Callan founded the original swim school and created the Murray Callan Soft-Touch, No Fear Technique. Joan Standley was an integral part of the administrative realm of the original Murray Callan Swim School. Glenn Callan represents the second generation and previously owned the San Marcos facility, and in 2014 he gave that facility to his son, Brett Callan, who is the third generation and current owner of the San Marcos facility. In 1975, Murray purchased a commercial property on Law in Pacific Beach and designed and built a custom facility, and a new facility was added in San Marcos in 1996.
Murray Callan was inducted into the inaugural class of the United States Swim School Hall of Fame, and the United States Swim School Association’s annual Teacher of the Year award is named in his honor. Testimonials from parents describe children progressing through all 8 levels and learning all 4 swim strokes, gaining independence in the water after only a few months, and starting lessons as early as 6 months old. Parents also describe instructors such as Allie, Kiran, Alyssa, Silvia, Larissa, and Brianna as calm, flexible, helpful, and making young children feel comfortable in the pool, and note that the current owner still gets in the pool with groups of kids to teach them how to swim.
