About
San Diego Canoe/Kayak Team introduces young athletes to sprint canoe paddling, kayak paddling, surfski paddling, and stand-up paddleboard (SUP) paddling. The program also includes land training in an on-site gym, using equipment that supports these paddle sports.
• Ages: 8–18 years old
San Diego Canoe/Kayak Team was founded in 1997 by Chris Barlow, an Olympic Sprint Kayaker (Barcelona 1992), and Coach Joseph, an Olympic Sprint Canoeist (Atlanta 1996). The program’s mission is to develop young athletes in the Olympic sports of sprint kayaking and canoeing, and all other paddle sports, and to connect paddlers of all ages and skill levels with a desire to pursue a lifelong passion of being on the water with a paddle. Experienced coaches are trained and certified by the International Canoe Federation (ICF), and they specialize in canoe, kayak, surf ski, and stand-up paddleboard (SUP). The program primarily trains athletes aged 8–21 and also embraces para, collegiate, and master/senior athletes. Racing teams compete at both National and International competitions, and coaches have prepared young athletes to succeed at World Championships and Olympic/Paralympic competitions. The team’s craft inventory includes Olympic sprint canoes and kayaks (including team doubles and fours), surf and spec skis, and stand-up paddleboards (SUPs), along with a well-equipped on-site gym for land training. SDCKT is listed among the best kayak clubs in the US by DIVEIN!. The organization has Premier Sponsors & Partners, and interested parties can become sponsors. Participants are asked to show up with water-appropriate clothes to paddle in, and the organization handles the rest.
