About

San Diego Canoe/Kayak Team focuses on sprint kayaking, sprint canoeing, and other paddle sports. Participants use canoes, kayaks, surf skis, and stand-up paddleboards (SUPs). The program also includes training in Olympic sprint canoes and kayaks, including team doubles and fours, along with surf and spec skis and SUPs.

• Ages: 8–18 years old

San Diego Canoe/Kayak Team was founded in 1997 by Chris Barlow, an Olympic Sprint Kayaker who competed in Barcelona in 1992, and he was soon joined by Olympic Sprint Canoeist Coach Joseph, who competed in Atlanta in 1996. The program primarily trains athletes aged 8–21 and also embraces para, collegiate, and master/senior athletes. Experienced coaches are trained and certified by the International Canoe Federation (ICF), and they specialize in canoe, kayak, surf ski, and stand-up paddleboard (SUP). The team’s mission is to develop young athletes in the Olympic sports of sprint kayaking and canoeing and other paddle sports, and to connect paddlers of all ages and skill levels with a desire to pursue a lifelong passion of being on the water with a paddle. Racing teams compete at both National and International competitions, and coaches have prepared young athletes to succeed at World Championships and Olympic/Paralympic competitions. SDCKT is listed among the best kayak clubs in the US by DIVEIN!, and it welcomes all athletes with a variety of programs to suit each individual. The organization’s vision is to be an internationally recognized canoe, kayak, and paddle sports team that offers several training locations in San Diego County with coaches and athletes working together to develop a passion to paddle fast and become champions on and off the water.
