Excelsior Martial Arts Academy is led by Jyn and Martin, a married “BJJ couple” who are described as friendly, welcoming, and thoughtful of different student levels. The expert coaching team includes IBJJF Black Belt World Champions and NCAA competitors, with over 30 years of combined experience working with adults and kids of all ages and backgrounds. The academy was established in February 2011, and Jyn and Martin received the keys to their current academy in November 2022. The program’s mission is to build strong foundations through personalized training and meaningful connections, while supporting and uplifting the community. It is proudly women-led and Asian-owned, operates as a family-run gym rooted in family values, and is a proud affiliate of JG Academy with the team motto “Aspire to Inspire.” The academy fosters an inclusive and diverse environment, hosts community team events, and offers services to the surrounding community, with an emphasis on contributing to the rich culture and history of the area and acknowledging that it is on unceded Ohlone territory.
