It was founded in 2015 with a mission to center girls in youth sports in a positive and rigorous environment, build soccer skills, character, and community, and create safe, inclusive spaces where young players can thrive on and off the pitch. The club describes itself as a community where young girls are empowered to lead on and off the field.
Girls Unite offers programs for players of all ages and aspirations, with all levels of play from Microsoccer to recreational to NorCal Premier Competitive Travel, along with futsal and sand soccer programs and year-round opportunities. Programs include soccer skills development, beach soccer, futsal, year-round technical sessions, special guests, interactive workshops, and team-building activities. The club has an all-female coaching staff and offers robust mentorship programs and year-round player development, and it is one of the few clubs to offer health and retirement benefits for coaches.
