About
San Francisco Police Activities League (SFPAL) Youth Programs offers activities including football, flag football, cheerleading, cheer and dance, girls basketball, boys basketball, a Law Enforcement Cadet Program, jiu jitsu, fishing, chess, art, and CrossFit. The SFPAL 49ers football program has played at Kimbell Field in the Western Addition for more than sixty years and has served more than 50 young boys and girls every fall. From a meager beginning and a handful of kids, SFPAL currently serves almost 1,200 youth annually with the help of over 100 civilians, police volunteer coaches, and mentors through a variety of sports and leadership activities.

• Schedule: SFPAL 49ers football season runs from July 27 through November, with practices starting Monday, July 27, 2026, and held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 5:00 pm–7:00 pm, then changing the week after Labor Day to Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 5:00 pm–7:00 pm; office hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 am–4:00 pm
• Price: SFPAL 49ers football has free registration with a $300 uniform deposit paid via PayPal; the Law Enforcement Cadet Program costs $450; jiu jitsu, Sgt. Herbert Lee Fishing, chess, art, and CrossFit are free
Since 1959, thousands of San Francisco youth have participated in PAL activities, and thousands of SFPAL youth have grown into leaders within the City of San Francisco, the San Francisco Police Department, and the business and nonprofit community. SFPAL states that it builds community by organizing youth sports and healthy activities and that it develops personal character and fosters positive relationships among police officers, youth, and dedicated volunteers. SFPAL is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization and is an independent nonprofit organization that receives no funding from the City and County of San Francisco.
SFPAL 49ers football is associated with the Bay Area Pop Warner Youth Football and Cheer and is partnered with the San Francisco 49ers and associated with Peninsula Pop Warner and Pop Warner Nationals. On August 24, 2017, the known SFPAL Seahawks team merged with the San Francisco 49ers, re-branding the team to the SFPAL 49ers. 49ers PREP flag football is brought to SFPAL by the San Francisco 49ers Foundation in partnership with the San Francisco Recreation and Park’s Department. Girls Basketball and Boys Basketball are in partnership with the Academy of Art University, the Law Enforcement Cadet Program is a collaborative effort of SFPAL and the San Francisco Police Department, the Sgt. Herbert Lee Fishing program is sponsored by the Fisherman’s Wharf Merchants Association, Wipe Out Bar & Grill, Alcatraz Cruises LLC., Pier 39, Blue & Gold Fleet, and the Port of San Francisco, the Chess Program is sponsored by the Archdiocese of San Francisco, the Art program is sponsored by the Academy of Art University, and the CrossFit program is sponsored by CrossFit Potrero Hill. SFPAL 49ers is associated with the Bay Area Pop Warner Youth Football and Cheer and is now on Facebook and Instagram.
For SFPAL 49ers football registration, families must submit a copy of the child’s birth certificate, a copy of the child’s complete report card (not required for the 2026 season), and a $300 uniform deposit paid via PayPal, and all required forms must be submitted to be considered fully registered. Space is limited and spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
