About
Kid Stock offers creative and fun performing arts programs where kids take part in singing, acting, dancing, and staging an original musical theater production. Each program includes introductory instruction in acting, singing, and dancing, and incorporates song, dance, art, and drama. The program stages original children’s musicals that are written to be relevant and meaningful to the kids who participate.
• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Schedule: Three-week Summer Camp programs
Kid Stock runs three-week Summer Camp programs and also offers programming year-round in school, after school, and camps. Since its inception in 1983, the program has seen enrollment of more than 10,000 in its Summer Day Camps, After School Programs, and In-School Programs. The program describes its motto as “Everyone Shines!” and states that it helps every child build their confidence and find their voice. It also states that its programs encourage acceptance, positivity, and achievement for kids of all ages and backgrounds while supplementing their arts education, and that it helps children build confidence and self-esteem while they learn teamwork and the joy of expressing themselves through song, dance, art, and drama.
Kid Stock (then known as Sunshine Band) was co-founded in 1993 and has welcomed thousands of students and campers into its programs in communities throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. The leadership and staff team includes Bradley Galliani (Program Director), Melissa Suncin (Creative Director), Hannah Sullivan (Operations Director), Noel Donovan (Board President & Co-Founder), Chelsea Mariotti (Board Treasurer), Annie Romero (Board Member), Christina Barratta (Board Member), Analisa Schelle (Board Member), Greg Russie (Board Member), Michael Suncin (Production Manager), Cait Mullan (Project Manager), Christina Companaro (Costumer), Mia Peneyra (Site Director/Teaching Artist), Charlie Jude (Site Director/Teaching Artist), and Jane Anne Sullivan (Co-Founder). The program describes itself as a low pressure, audition-free environment where every single camper receives a role designed to challenge and delight, and it includes a final performance for family and friends at the end of three weeks.
One parent shared that their normally shy and reserved children sang a solo into a microphone in front of a packed audience and that the staff nurtured the kids so that they walked onto the stage full of confidence. The same parent said their kids look forward to summer camp with Kid Stock each year, and that one child found her inner actor through the program and now attends year round, adding that they feel grateful for the program for helping their children feel passionate about the arts.
